deliver aircraft-rated paving and extensive site-concrete work for a new CMV-22 maintenance facility at Naval Air Station North Island.

Site-concrete and aircraft-rated paving portions of a design-bid-build project. The new hangar will support Fleet Readiness Center Southwest and includes awarded options for overhead cranes, a fall-arrest bridge and scaffolding system, and translucent wall panels in the maintenance and shop areas.

The work included heavy-duty aircraft pavement, vehicular paving, pedestrian paving, curbs, gutters, aggregate base, reinforced steel, dowels, joint systems, detectable warning surfaces, bollards, and drainage-related improvements.

Install of 19 reinforced light-pole bases and 21 six-inch exterior bollards. Additional work included setting trench drains. Retrofitted drain inlets and manholes, provide concrete mix designs and admixtures, and meeting the project’s stringent flatness, smoothness, accessibility, and quality-control requirements inside an active facility. Naval Air Station North Island had to remain operational throughout construction, requiring crews to minimize disruptions to ongoing military activities.

Safety requirements were equally demanding. Compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ EM 385-1-1 safety manual. The project also called for compliance with environmental, stormwater, air-quality, accessibility, and sustainable-building standards.
